Eighth Grade

Welcome to the 8th grade at St. Francis of Assisi School!

Students in the 8th grade will study the following this year:

Social Studies

Emphasis is on the Industrial Revolution to the present. . Preparation for the N.Y. State test in Social Studies test takes place over the course of the year and ,in particular, during the months of May and June.

Science

The 8th grade course focuses on Earth Science. Topics include: geology, weather, and the Solar System. Preparation for the N.Y. State test in Science takes place over the course of the year and ,in particular, during the month of May. Students will conduct experiments in our science lab throughout the year.

Religion

Students will study the Ten Commandments in depth, the early church, what it means to be Catholic, and the core doctrine of our Catholic faith.

Mathematics

Topics include: rational numbers, real numbers and the coordinate plane, equations and inequalities, geometry and measurement, graphs, probability, functions, and polynomials. Preparation for the NY State test in Mathematics starts in February and continues up to the administration of the test in March.

Language Arts

Grammar, vocabulary, and literature comprise the 8th grade Language Arts course. Textbooks in each area are used, in addition to trade books. Preparation for the NY State test in Language Arts begins in December and concludes in January.
